How to design grow lights layout

Lighting large spaces with grow lights can be a challenge, especially if you want to ensure that all areas receive the necessary amount of light. One solution to this problem is to use multiple fixtures strategically placed throughout the space. By doing so, you can create an even distribution of light that will help your plants grow faster and healthier. In this article, we will explore the benefits of using multiple grow light fixtures and provide tips for how to effectively set them up in your space.

In the case of LED lights overlapping footprints of light fixtures can be advantageous, helping to provide more uniform light distribution throughout the tent, however overlapping of HID light fixtures could lead to hot spots, so care should be taken when positioning lights.

Furthermore, selecting the appropriate power of light fixture can be tricky when multiple lights are concerned. We have provided some examples that are suitable for a 1.5 x 3m space, and a 1.2 x 2.4m space. Simply double the configuration to infer for 3 x 3m and 2.4 x 2.4m sizes.

A more advanced option might be to use fewer light fixtures with a light mover kit, by constantly moving your grow lights back and forth, you can ensure that each plant receives consistent light coverage and reduce the risk of hot spots or shadowed areas.

Adding many light fixtures into a small space can cause significant amounts of heat, it is important to take this into account by increasing ventilation, eg. using a bigger fan or adding an intake fan, using air conditioning, or for the case of HID fixtures, using a cool tube style reflector with fans and ducting.
