Why Growing Your Own Fish Is Healthier And Tastes Great

Video Transcript:

Hi, I’m Chris from Aqua Gardening

Most of us buy our fish from the supermarket, right? But what we don’t see is the impact commercial fishing has on our oceans – with over fishing being a major environmental issue around the globe to the point our Australian navy has to defend our waters for foreign fishing trawlers!

Not only that, the majority of fish in the supermarket is imported from overseas frozen and then thawed in Australia – this makes the fish taste really bland and not very flavoursome.

Add to this the increase in pollution on our oceans and waterways, and fish ingesting more and more plastic.... and the fish on our plates just don’t taste as good as they used to.

The good news is that you can help protect the environment and have tastier, fresher fish at home, saving your hundreds of dollars at the supermarket.

Take for instance Barramundi. Barra grown in aquaponic systems have an exceptionally clean, crisp taste. It’s also exciting for you and your guests to see these energetic fish in their tank, and they will become the envy of your neighbours! Often freshwater fish are expected to taste muddy, but this is because the river they’re caught in is actually a little muddy and murky as rivers often are. You can expect a nicer flavour from your own fish tank!

If you love curries you have to grow Jade Perch. This is the fish highest in Omega 3 oils, so not only will you be as healthy as a fish-eating Eskimo, but you will find their flavour complements curries and Asian dishes perfectly.

We can show you how to easily grow your own fresh fish at home, and produce great tasting herbs and vegetables at the same time that grow 3 times faster than a traditional soil garden. The best thing is that these automatic garden systems virtually run themselves. All you have to do is harvest your fresh fish, herbs and vegetables to create delicious meals for your family.

Getting your protein from your own yard instead of buying it from a supermarket, will reduce your impact on nature, save you money – and help to prevent over-fishing in our seas.
