My Pond Has A Lot Of Algae, How Do I Fix It?

Video Transcript:

Hi I’m Shiran from Aqua Gardening.

In this frequently asked questions video I'll help you understand how to get rid of that ugly, pea-soup look in your water, and other string algae you may come across

Algae is created with excess sunlight and nutrients. You can treat it and keep it under control with fish safe algaecides and ultra violet clarifiers that are built especially for ponds!

When using an algaecide, follow the dosage of liquid on the bottle, and consider running an air pump and air stone in the pond as the dead algae can increase the load on the oxygen levels in the pond.

There are many types of algaecides which are safe for fish, so if one doesn't work, don’t give up, just try a different one. At Aqua Gardening we stock the types which treat the most types of algae.

An UV Clarifier simply plugs into a pump, and algae is killed as it passes past the lamp inside. It is best to use a UVC with a filtration system as the clumped algae will be filtered straight out of the pond. Check out our range of UV clarifiers on the link below.

Bio filters often come with an integrated UVC system, making them all in one, with only a pump to add to get the water to circulate. They can be located inside or outside of your pond depending on the pond size and surroundings. Follow the link below to see the range of bio filters available.
